Project 1B - Event Proposal & Situation Analysis
LECTURE NOTES
17/09/19 (Week 4)
This week we got a lecture on situation analysis, which is a market analysis made up of a range of factors relevant to the particular situation. It looks into the internal and external factors that affects the brand.
S - STRENGTHS
W - WEAKNESSES
O -OPPORTUNITY
T - THREATS
As an example, we got to look into the situation analysis for the brand Starbucks, which helped us develop a better understanding of how SWOT works.
After the lecture, we were brief on second task, in which we are to propose an event of our choice. We are required to conduct a SWOT analysis, design a logo along with other brand identity aspects, as well as the decide on the positioning and ideal brand images for the proposed event.

REFLECTION
EXPERIENCE
For the second task, we had to come up with our own event and conduct a SWOT analysis for it, along with the logo, other brand identity aspects, and also the positioning of it. I felt like the hardest part of this project was trying to come up with an event idea, and then trying to come up with the brand name for it. In the end, I decided to take inspiration from my case study of Urbanscapes, but only focusing on the art aspect, hence creating a visual arts festival. I also struggled with finding the ideal brand images as I was being very picky and I wanted to make sure all the visual references had somewhat of a consistency between them.
OBSERVATION
I noticed that the SWOT analysis is really beneficial for a brand as you are able to identify different aspects about your brand, good and bad, which helps a brand plan their strategies for success. I also observed that I spent too much time worrying about my ideas instead of actually trying to do them. Once I had a clearer idea of what sort of event I wanted to propose, the contents started to flow in.
FINDINGS
Through this project, I found that taking the extra step of researching on the chosen subject was really helpful as I had a much better understanding of what my event will revolve around. Overall, I felt that this task was challenging but also a good learning experience as I got to know what's it like to create an event and come up with all the visual identity for it.
