Final Project - Animated Infographics

INSTRUCTIONS

07/01/19 (Week 1)
In the first class, we were briefly introduced about our assignments, including the final project. In the final project, we are required to create an animated infographic using the theme of comparing and contrasting.

Back home, I started to brainstorm some ideas.

09/01/19 (Week 1)
Now that we have a group, we got to discuss on what topic we wanted to do as a team. We started by listing down ideas and narrowing it down to which one we preferred.

Mr Shamsul mentioned that we should think of the aspects regarding what, why, when, where, who and how. He also showed us 2 works done by our seniors so we have a better idea of what the outcome will be like.

After some time of discussing, we finally made up our mind on the topic we were going to work with. In the end, we chose Red Wine vs White Wine.

To proceed from here, we started listing out the points we could research on regarding both wines and then conduct research on them. These points will then lead to our narrative structure.

16/01/19 (Week 2)
During Thursday's class, my group presented on our narrative for red vs white wine. We also added a slide at the end to show our moodboard which includes the colour scheme, selected typeface and illustration style.

Once we had the 5 act structure completed, we wrote them in the form of paragraphs and added opening and closing sentences to act as our narrative.

Tasks were also split among us to get things done more effectively.

Illustrators: Thooba, JQ, Jessica
Animators: Jasmine, Suzy, Velia

(Week 3)
No classes as we had a study trip to Korea for intercultural design class.

28/01/19 (Week 4)
In this class, we were told to create an animatic and show it to them the next class for feedback.

Suzy drew out the rough draft of the storyboard and later on shared it with the group so Jasmine, Velia and herself can work on sketching the animatics.

While they were working on the animatics, I started to work on the illustrations and play around with the colours to see what fits best.

Back to the animatics, Jasmines complied all the sketches and the voiceover by Suzy into a video and uploaded it on YouTube.

Here is the video of the animatics!

30/01/19 (Week 4)
In class, Mr Shamsul and Mr Kannan got to have a look at our animatics.

FEEDBACK: Overall, they both liked what we've done. We could add some keywords to our video, and to show the price we could add a price tag/label to it. They also mentioned how it is good that the narration had different intonations to make it more interesting.

With the animatics, it gave us a clearer idea of what we needed to illustrate. Thooba, JQ and I started to list out all the elements needed to be illustrated, then we divided the parts among ourselves.

I started to work on the illustrations.

We also agreed that once we were done illustrating, we would share the ai files so we could each play around with the colours to make sure everything looks good together.

(Week 5)
It's the week of Chinese New Year so there was no class.

I continued to work on the illustrations. At this point, I was already done illustrating the elements and what was left was finalising the colours to everything.

Thooba and JQ were also done with their parts. We all shared the files and individually tried to work on the colours. Later on, we will share with each other which colours look best and use it as our final colour palette.

Here's the final assets.

(Week 6)
This week, we created separate ai files for each of the acts and place the elements in different layers for the animation later on.

Here are the pdfs of each individual file, including the intro, 5 act structures and ending.

Besides that, we also recorded the narration for our video.

Once all that is done, we uploaded the files to google drive so Suzy, Jasmine and Velia can work on the animation. They've discussed about how the parts should be split, as well as what transition effects to use and what should be animated.

(Week 7)
It's the final week of our short semester! In this week, we finalised and complied all the parts together, preparing for our submission which is on Friday.

Here is the final outcome of our video!
